Thank you from a CIS college student

Marvel’s Story
Excerpt from Marvel’s letter

New to Houston and just starting out at Lone Star College, Marvel was trying to do the right things and struggling to beat the odds and keep up with her demanding course load. Instead, she found herself sleeping in her car, often hungry, and without enough money for small purchases like the required uniform for her choir class’ concert. She describes how “it hurts when you have no one to turn to for help,” until CIS stepped in. She explains that,”you guys were always there for my rescue and I love you for that.”

Full letter below:

“My experiences at Lone Star North Harris has been tremendous thanks to Mrs. Dana Esposito and the rest of her colleagues. I never knew a college that does anything to make sure you succeed outside of your studies. Coming from Kansas City, MO by myself, I felt like I was on my own. However, Mrs. Dana and Lone Star have showed me everything but that. When I started in the fall, I went through a lot of obstacles, but you guys made me feel secure. I thank you guys for providing me with food when I didn’t have anything to eat, and providing me with attire for my choir concert that depended on me passing the course. It hurts when you have no one to turn to for help, but you guys were always there for my rescue and I love you for that. I also appreciate how you guys found me a roommate at the school when you knew that I was sleeping in my car. This allowed me to get on my feet, I found a job and got a one-bedroom apartment so when my children arrive at the beginning of the year, they’ll have a place to call home. Now that I have my apartment, thanks to you guys paying the remaining balance for me to move in, I just want to say that I’m grateful, and if there is anything that I can do to pay you guys back for your heroics, just count me in.” – Marvel McClellan II
