Schools taking a more serious look at students’ mental health needs

CIS students bravely shared their stories with SBISD Superintendent Scott Muri, Rep. Zerwas, Principal Weir, and others who were visiting.

“Schools across Texas are taking a more serious look at students’ mental health needs to prevent potential tragedies and improve academic outcomes,” The Houston Chronicle reports. “What they are finding is a stunning spike in students struggling with mental health challenges, prompting them to try to beef up their support networks."

The Houston Chronicle was there as State Representative John Zerwas visited CIS at Spring Branch ISD’s Memorial High School to learn about what CIS does and hear directly from students how CIS has helped them.

“‘They helped me out and gave me the biggest hug,” one student said. “For the first time, I felt like I was worth it.”
