More support on the way for Aldine ISD students
Aldine ISD expands partnership with Communities In Schools of Houston as families cope with pandemic’s lasting impact
(HOUSTON) - As part of its commitment to student wellness in and out of the classroom, Aldine Independent School District is expanding its partnership with the nonprofit Communities In Schools of Houston (CIS), bringing student support specialists onto more campuses for the 2021-2022 school year.
CIS partners with education leaders and community organizations to provide comprehensive services for students and families in their times of need. From crisis intervention to providing basic necessities and other resources, CIS student support specialists will be embedded on Aldine ISD campuses to help break down any barriers to students’ success.
Aldine ISD is adding CIS student support specialists at five ninth-grade centers: Aldine, Davis, Eisenhower, MacArthur and Nimitz. These are in addition to the CIS student support specialist already embedded at Teague Middle School.
“Dealing with the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic has been difficult for everyone. Aldine ISD wants is committed to supporting, in any way it can, the emotional and social needs of our students and families,” Aldine ISD Chief of School Dr. Katy Roede said. “CIS will play a critical role in helping us provide comprehensive student support."
This expansion was made possible—in part—by support from state leaders in the Texas Legislature. For the upcoming 2021-22 school year, CIS student support specialists have been called to help more than 125,000 students on nearly 170 campuses in Aldine ISD, Fort Bend ISD, Houston ISD, Spring Branch ISD, Alief ISD, Spring ISD, Southwest Schools, Texas Connections Academy virtual public school and Lone Star Colleges.
“Our student support specialists’ important work would not be possible without the tireless commitment from education leaders to surround students with a community of support,” CIS of Houston CEO Lisa Descant said. “We’re grateful for the opportunity to expand our presence in Aldine ISD and help educators make a needed difference by inspiring, comforting and empowering students.”
